what are your thoughts on the direction of this country? any of you a little concerned? i'm still waivering on all this especially since the AIG news came out today. I have been preaching for a couple of years now that this country is going to have to change it's beliefs and habits but I didn't expect it to come this soon. We were setting ourselves up for a major disaster. This crisis could ultimately be the best thing that happens to our country as we will have to rethink everything that we do. I just don't really know how to react as every single piece of news is so pessimistic and it's hard to feel positive.

We are running in the ditch. Our president is fattening up his cronies while Rome burns. Capitalism itself is not the problem. Politicians and greed most certainly are. This country was founded on freedom and doing the right thing, but we are eaten up with freeloaders and corner-cutters.

The best thing the government can do is get the hell out of the way. The amount of taxation regulation that are coming our way over the next four years will be punitive. We are going to be set back 20 years. Unfortunately, the American press is complicit.

Since the government has decided to interfere with the natural cleansing process an opportunity has been lost. Instead we are left with a bunch of idiots that feel like owning a home is a right.

the thing that i pisses me off so much is many people keep saying you can't cut taxes and spend more. that's true. but, the tax cuts we have gotten are negligible compared to all of the little taxes nobody ever thinks about. check your wireless bill. check your internet bill. check your receipts. check your landline if you still have one. the list goes on and on. we are taxed all over the fucking place. icon8.gif

scot, i am ALL ABOUT the natural cleansing process. in fact i was at a case study about 10 days ago with some MBAs and guys from Credit Suisse and Cushman Wakefield and they asked us what we think about the stimulus. I was the only one that stood up and said it sucked and that we should let the natural progression takes it's course if we truly want to fix this problem.

The mortgage bailout is the perfect example of helping out people that shouldn't be helped. They bought too much and now it is time for them to take their asses back to an apartment or rent home where they belong.
Same with the fucking auto makers. If they would have got the fuck out of the way, the UAW would have been crushed and maybe a good fucking car could finally come out of detroit.

owning a house is a privilege not a right. i finished grad school and have some loans to pay off but i'll be damned if i'm going to even think of shopping for a house before they are paid off and i've built up some savings.

fuck GM too. i swear what dumbfuck people are running the show there. i'm sitting there thinking what kind of harvard grads are running that company. i can look at it and make better decisions. for one, acquiring other automakers doesn't necessarily grow the company, it just expands the company and accrues more debt on the sheets. when you use the same platforms for those cars as you are for fucking chevrolet, pontiac and buick, you are ruining great models that built those companies to begin with. and why in the fuck can you not consolidate suppliers. that fucking supply chain is all over the map with more than 2000 suppliers. keep it simple stupid. wal-mart has it down. they have many suppliers, but they dictate to the suppliers what they want, not the other way around. fuck GM, Ford and Chrysler.

my simple minded fucking opinion (going to come across as very uneducated or stupid more than likely): i say fuck those companies like AIG, GM etc. i wouldn't give them shit cause 1) they made bad, dumb and shady dealings that got their ass in this mess to begin with and 2) because in some cases, it's going to postpone the inevitable. i believe in accountability and if you fuck up, you suffer the consequences.

i look at it from the stand point of one of us: if we go out and do something stupid to put ourselves in a financial bind, is the government going to give us the money in order for us to keep all our shit and maintain the same lifestyle? hell no. they're going to tell us tough fucking luck and next time don't be such a dumbass. if they would bail us out, the economy wouldn't be gone all to shit now cause there'd be motherfuckers out purchasing the same shit they can't afford all over again.

i want to know how the fuck they plan on recouping the money they lent if/when some of these fucking companies go under. as for AIG: fuck them and i hope they go down in fucking flames. had i been in charge, they'd have had to give every fucking cent back for that little celebration they threw once they recieved the first money. i'll never do business with them and the same with any business that does it with them either if i find out. they can kiss my fucking ass and i'll piss on their grave and take a steamy shit on their headstone. and chrysler: why do they even fucking matter? i'm not fucking 80. i don't need their over priced piece of fucking shit. maybe if these US automakers would build a more dependable product, i might think about buying one of them instead of hondas.

and quit charging so much fucking money for every fucking thing. jesus fucking christ, i go out to get my daughter a fucking dollhouse and the cheapest fucking one i can find is over a hundred dollars. it's a fucking plastic toy motherfuckers. your stupid barnyard set is twenty bucks - what's up with that shit? and i'm not buying all that shit sony claims about how their losing all this money on each PS3 they sell. if you're losing that fucking much, stop fucking making them dumbass. if not, shut the fuck up about the fact that you're too fucking stupid to either make it cheaper so you can turn a profit or discontinue it. i got some beach front property in arizona i want to sell you too while you're at it dumbfuck. oh and microsoft, build a dependable Xbox and maybe the fucking wii's and PS3's would go away. have a nice fucking day with your lawsuit cause you got caught building a piece of shit and trying to hide the fact that you knew it. apple, you're overpriced mac isn't any better than my cheap ass PC. drop the fucking price and maybe you could kick microsoft's fucking teeth in for the rest of the world who isn't stupid enough to pay all that extra money for the same fucking thing, different color

The same thing that is happening with AIG is happening with the American homeowner. They (the government) are throwing a band aid on a fucking bullet wound. They think they can just throw cash at the problem and it will go away. In 6 months or a year or whenever, the same people that need the fucking mortgage bailout money are going to need more bailout money, just like AIG...and Obama will give it to them. He is buying votes with my money. I hate the 'vicious cycle' comparison, but that is what it is. These companies and people need to fail. It might hurt worse now, but in the long run, it won't be as bad. Remember a year ago or whenever AIG got the first bailout, they were deemed 'too big to fail,' so the gov. propped them up. Now, we are MUCH worse off, AIG is still failing (miserably), and we are going to have to rinse and repeat.

all we need is people to buy into one thing: personal responsibility. such an easy solution that will never ever happen. let the people who fuck themselves get fucked...i'm tired of taking it dry for them.

First thing I'm doing when we buy the new house is brewing beer. Never done it but can't wait to try it. Have a good friend who always has 2-3 home brews on tap. It's fucking awesome to go over to his house.

I agree with everything on this thread (not related to moonshine or homebrew--not that there's anything wrong with that). I think most Americans that work for a living do, too.

We all have to live with our decisions every day. As a businessman, no one would bail me out if I screwed up. As a homeowner, no one would give two shits if I got foreclosed on. Obama is pretty much buying votes right now.

I heard the other day that the spending that Obama has proposed since he took office is more money than the federal government has spent from the country's founding until today. I will have to see the source, but that is stupid, if so. People fail all the time in life. Businesses have to be able to fail, also.

It makes me sick to think that we are giving the automakers money that is only being used to pay for healthcare for union workers. That's it. The Big Three's overhead is so much that our money is just paying that. They have to file bankruptcy to cut overhead, but the government wants to keep throwing money at them because the unions partially bought this election.

The stock market and economy are going more to shit every day, and our government wants to spend a trillion dollars on socialized healthcare. That will stimulate the economy?!
