Unfortunately for Leonard Downie Jr., former executive editor of the Washington Post and a graduate of Ohio State, he got to witness former OSU coach Woody Hayes up close and probably too personal. Downie worked for The Lantern ( Ohio State's student newspaper) in the early 1960s. He had several memorable moments, especially his time spent with the legendary Hayes. "If the team lost or tied, he would conduct an interview in the nude," said Downie, as reported in The Lantern. "He was an ugly guy so it would clear the locker room out pretty fast."

Never argue with a moron. They will bring you down to their level and beat your ass with their experience.

Per Robert Caro's biography of LBJ (an excellent read, btw) Johnson would have his assistants follow him into the bathroom where he would discuss items and dictate to them while taking a crap.

Chip Howard here in B/CS had somebody on his radio show that wrote a book about Woody. Talked about how Woody was a big history guy and would take the team on educational sites during road trips. Went on about how he took over tour from the tour guide at some presidential library because the tour guide didn't know what he was talking about (or at least not as much as Woody).

Other thing was that Woody taught classes and really felt he was part of the education staff not just the football coach and spent a lot of time in the faculty lounges.
