Bowl Games

I can't imagine being a team like Bama. You're in the running for the MNC until the last game of the regular season. At that point, what motivation do you have to win a bowl game? It's like having to play the game for third place.

Maybe the more the better doesn't fit the 900 bowls they have now.

Motivation in bowls is everything. Many times a bowl will feature one team that is excited to be there and another that's bummed because they expected better.
In 1975 A&M blew an outright conference championship, Cotton Bowl berth and possible national championship by losing to Arkansas the last game of the season. Instead they wound up in the Liberty Bowl and slept walked their way to a loss.
The next year A&M lost two conference games early and was in real danger of not making a bowl at all. Instead they righted themselves, won every game the rest of the year and played their way into the Sun Bowl, where they beat the shit out of a good Florida team.
In 1990 A&M went to the Holiday Bowl where they had to listen to BYU bitch all week about the fact that the Cougars didn't wind up in a better bowl. RC used that to motivate his team and the Aggies destroyed BYU.
In 1992 A&M was 12-0 going into the Cotton Bowl against Notre Dame and their was some talk from Aggie players that they were disappointed that they weren't getting to play for a national title. Lou Holtz used that to motivate the Irish to beat the shit outta A&M, which they did.

Yep. OU had nothing to play for the last two years in the BCS games. They should have won both and lost to an upstart and undefeated Boise State looking to make a statement and a motivated WVU team with a coach playing for his coaching life.

This goes to my point that Fran's biggest shortcoming was letting the O-Line and D-Line go to shit, and it killed us on into this year.

the game is won in the trenches, no doubt. but we have a need this year and that's linebackers. we cannot fill up those holes and stop the run.

Agreed. That's one reason I'd be more excited to see us sign two 4 star linemen instead of this 5 star back we just got a commit from.

Bama was overrated all year. They didn't beat any tough teams. Spare me any Georgia or Clemson talk.
Utah was the better team all year, and beat that ass accordingly.
I do think Tech is better than Ole Miss.

So head to head means nothing?

I didn't say they are better. I said I think they are.
Why would a Sooner ever care about head to head?

see kstate vs purdue in 98.
kstate was the best team in the nation and blew it vs. a&m. they were left out of the bcs and ended up in the friggin alamo and looked so uninspired.

I get that distinct feeling when I watch OU play bowl games, yes.

I'm using Tech as the most recent example, but teams like them deserve a shot at a meaningful post season. They and schools like them deserve a better reward for their overall body of work. The fact that Tech lost isn't the issue. Give the teams that earn a shot the shot.

Missouri last year is another good example of this.

I got the impression that Texas didn't feel like the Fiesta Bowl was much of a reward, either. As a matter of fact, the only "meaningful" bowl game, OU vs. Florida, isn't really meaningful either.

The two best teams are playing against each other. What is not meaningful about that?

You fags lost to a crappy tech team and barely beat ohio state. Get over it, you aren't in the top 2

I am certainly over it, but there is nothing objective about it.
We should just have judges in the endzones. TDs should count more if the scoring player does a pirouette crossing the goal line.

Of course a tsip would want that. queer.

Of course if this same thing happened to the Ags that happened to Texas, Scot would just grin and take it and not say a word.
