* Our O-line is poor. Can't protect and can't run block very well. I know they're green, but jeezus.

* Our special teams have stayed the same over the last decade. They were bad RC's last couple of years, bad under Fran and stink this year too.

* You'd have to go back to Emory Bellard's early 70s Aggie teams to find one that fumbles this much.

* I'm gonna predict that every team we play this year will have a running back go for 100 yards against us. Even Army. And the better teams will probably have someone go for 200.

* Uh, I'm not real impressed with Cyrus Gray. Maybe with better blocking..........

* In case anyone's keeping score, looks like Fran has ruined TWO quarterbacks. Someday McGee and Reggie will meet for beers and compare notes.

* If I'm Sherm, I'm puttin out the word that I've got instant playing time for any top high school wide reciever. I've never seen such a junk pile of converted QBs, etc. Fuller looks good though.

* The white tops - maroon pants uni combo looks sweet.

* The more playing time JJ gets, the happier I am.

* Bennett looks to be our best defensive player.

Yeah, what's the deal with Avery? He was a top TE in high school and we're weak at that position.

Sounds like Sherm needs to run off some dead weight. I know it's illegal, but still.......

A trip to Junction might be in order.

fuck it, if you can't play you shouldn't be on the team.

To add to your list, J Train couldn't block a 8 year old. He's given up, they need to bench his ass too.

i think they're much improved on defense to anything fran fielded. they need to wrap up on tackles and not miss gap assignments but overall, the scheme will be good once they get some speed out there. watched part of the game in between getting ready for a wake for a good friend who passed away suddenly thurs night (very shocking news for me).

cyrus looks very tentative and i'm going to chalk that up to freshman jitters and hope he gets comfortable and it goes away

pugh and bennett are the top D players. featherson looked pretty decent too. dixon looks slow and only wants to make the highlight hit.

on the int for a TD: think this is the play but anyways, slot receiver was uncovered and if they hit him he's got the first. it was one of the first 2 ints.

loved not seeing safeties playing 15 to 20 off the ball. still want to see some press and that Ohio State, not lining up on the slot and then trying to drop back has to go. doesn't work for them, not going to work for you. line up on him and fucking stay there.

speed: need a lot more of it. after watching miami/florida, A&M looked like they were in slow motion

it's a work in progress but you can see there will be improvement under sherm compared to fran. would like to see a little more wide open offense but they might be hiding shit for miami. i hope so cause miami is going to get A&M unless they come out flat. too much speed and talent. to use a phrase i've seen on the football board and in AO: baby steps. i'm pleased with the progress i saw today over the fran era. couple of years and A&M will start creeping back on to the scene
Never argue with a moron. They will bring you down to their level and beat your ass with their experience.

What we need more than anything, is speed. Watching Florida, Miami and Oklahoma today and looking at our game really drives home how slow we still are. Fran never could solve that problem, if Sherm can, the wins will take care of themselves. If he can't, there may be a radio gig in his future also.

jerrod johnson is so much better than mcgee....honestly, can put this whole "he only does vs backups" thing to rest.

finally, a QB who will maintain a pocket presence, and throw downfield, and run only when shit breaks down.

w/ SM, we probably lose this football game.

Fran recruited a lot of guys with questionable talent. Pretty well documented. Avery and Harold Turnage (both TEs) are two of those guys.

i think avery had some decent other offers but agree w/ bohunk

fran had really one class of note, his first, that he rode to death...his other classes weren't even top 30 and just featured a handful of solid players at best.

i feel sorry for goodson having to run in this fuckfest but i do think having a QB that will actually go over the top and downfield will at least give him an ounce of breathing room.

From talking to folks associated with the program, you would not believe how many "whiffs" we had in recruiting by Fran and Company. Not just the guys we missed out on, but guys we picked up that we simply had no business recruiting. Apparently when Sherman came in, they figured this out pretty quick and are basically trying to plug a leaky dike as far as our two-deep goes this year, as is readily apparent. Also, Sherman is having to clean up Fran's mess with regards to the way he disciplined the team (see J-Lane and Martellus as two public examples). I think it has been documented that Fran had different sets of rules for different guys, and it's creating a mess.

Personally, I think we'll be lucky to hit .500 this year, and really am kind of expecting a 4-8 type year now. I hate it, but I think Sherman has inherited just a boatload of shit from Fran. The shit he's dealing with makes 2003 look like nothing (in my opinion). Not trying to make excuses for Sherman, because we NEVER should've lost to Arky State, but I've heard too much over the last week to think this is nothing other than a rebuilding year.....and I'm one of the most optimistic mother fuckers on the boards.

FYI;

Current classes on this team and Rivals ranking-

2005 - #8
2006 - #27
2007 - #43 (!)
2008 - #16

I don't care about Rivals rankings in this case though....I'm talking about where those guys are now. There were SEVERAL cases where either:

A) They were overrated by Rivals
B) Were not developed once they got on campus (this happened a lot I believe)

It's one of the reasons I really like that Sherman and Co. are doing their own evaluations and not relying on other sources as Fran seemed to. I just think Fran was a shitty talent evaluator when all was said and done....and if he did get talent, he had trouble figuring out how to best use it. Now who knows if Sherman will be any better, but we'll see......I don't think 2008 will be any indication though.

I think Lewis is one of those guys that didn't live up to his billing from what it sounds like. How is that Michael Morgan guy we lost to USC doing for them I wonder?

Besides Fuller:

Cyrus
Tony Jerod-Eddie
Eddie Brown
Terrence Frederick
Trent Hunter
Adren Dorsey
Josh Ayers

(pulled from the participation chart in the box scores)

Guy that tailgates next to us is very close to Jackie Sherrill, he said Jackie said that if Sherm wins 7 games he should be national coach of the year. That pretty much sums up the talent right there.

Oh and on the recruiting deal, I think Sherman got fucked in this 2008 class because he was forced to stick with some of the guys Fran made offers to that he wouldn't have.....the opposite of Fran's situation in '03 when he inherited a pretty decent class from RC and just shored it up at the end.

i will say i was a little disturbed to see SM "beat out" JJ for the QB spot.

seems w/ this line that decision would have been pretty clear cut from the beginning, but especially after ark state.

That would also explain Reggie Herring taking one look and hauling ass out of town.

Did you watch JJ play? He has a slow, nipple high release that is not very accurate.

Darnell was the only d-coord who would take it. After 2005 it looked like Fran was on his way out and no one worth a shit was going to work on that staff for what might have been a one year gig. Darnell actually did a good job in 2006.

lightyears better than mcgee is poise, actually sitting in the pocket, and going downfield.

guy's not great, but if we had mcgee throwing his 3 yd outs all game and running around w/ his hair on fire, we lose that ballgame.

bingo, everybody knew that fran only had 1 year left so no DC with any future would be dumb enough to jump on the sinking fran ship.

We fucked up in '05 by not canning fran. We may never recover from that mistake.
