actually, its pretty easy to understand.
basically its just that many ags, not all, go out of their way to help their peers moreso than other institutions both in everyday life situations, work, tragedy, etc.

the fact that you post on the world's largest college website should be enough to explain.

i saw where some dude was bragging on the recruiting board about how he had unsolicited job offers before he got his degree. i had unsolicited offers as well. it's called alumni calling the professors and asking who their top students are and which would make good hires. it's a big network pretty much the same as job networking once you're out in the field

Liar! Damn you, you lying liar! Only Aggies do that. No other schools's alums help each other.
A&M is special, I tell you! Special! Do you hear me?!

I am, too.
Horns certainly help each other out.
I will admit that it is a bigger deal to Aggies than most other alumni groups, though.

i think this all goes back to mandatory corps participation. we had very few students for a very long time that most often went on to serve some time in the military. when they came back, other former students wanted to help each other out. i think it just grew from there.

no one's saying alumni and students from other schools don't care for each other but you answered the question yourself with the following:

and, as usual, you have a hyper-sensitive Aggie who can't stand anyone else saying that their school has a pretty good alumni network.
A&M is special! Special! Do you hear me?!

no shit sherlock, not every alumnus posts on message boards. my point is that the strength of our network is shown because we have so many that posts on a message board.

in each city, there are numerous organized associations, howdy club, reveille club, houston A&M club, Dallas A&M club, NYC A&M club, DC, etc. many cities have numerous clubs as well, houston has 3 major clubs with tons of active participants. i go to alumni breakfast every thursday morning i get a chance, and alumni luncheon on every friday...there's tons of happy hours, aggienights at sporting events, aggie river weekend, etc. all just a huge part of the network

ding ding ding ding...one example of the aggie network surf is the ring...i couldn't tell you how many people i've met around the country because of the ring. it's noticeable and makes an instant connection...no other school has it. do you see a bunch of UNC rings, no, so how do you recognize them. how bout OSU, nope, so you could be sitting in a restaurant or bar and have no clue that person is from OSU. but the Aggie ring, is a symbol. as an aggie when we are out, that's the first thing we look at when we meet someone, no matter where we are. that's the network

I know Ags get a lot of shit for this but wtf cares. Like it's been said before, you sit next to somebody in airport in bfe and you notice a Aggie ring then you start up a conversation with them.

can't stand anyone else that has a good alumni network? uh, sure...that's good ol' jump our tech and ut friends make any time its said that a&m might have an advantage in any particular area.
like i said, its more you trying to jump up and down screaming that a&m isn't anything different than anywhere else and then you readily admit its a bigger deal. again, why its necessary to bend over backwards to "prove" to everyone that a&m, its traditions, etc are all so avg, i'll never figure it out...

Don't flatter yourself.
I was just pointing out the "look at me" attitude Aggies have with their network, which you have underlined nicely.
