While I realize that you've lived in the South for a while and I only did for about a year, I disagree with you. EVERYONE talked about the Braves when I lived in North Florida (which is basically like South Georgia i.e. it's the Deep South, not the "Florida" most here think of). The Braves are, in fact, the "team of the South" in baseball, as there isn't any other. That, and them showing every game on TBS for years gave them a huge following, similar to the Cubs. Baseball is a very big part of this country, whether you like it or not. Nothing wrong with not liking it, but millions upon millions do.

lea, baseball is popular here but i'm in the softball capital of the world. no one here talks baseball. they talk basketball, nascar,and softball. they have the softball museum like a county away from me. just about everyone plays it. yeah you'll go to people's houses and they might have the game on but they aren't anything like you guys are on texags. not even close. as for actual sports people here play themselves it's softball and it ain't even close with any other sport. my boss plays for a national team and they're one of the top teams in the nation. it's huge here whereas baseball isn't. i've played for a couple of teams but it isn't my thing. once you get to highschool out here it's all softball. baseball is for little kids here
